Outdoor charging specialist Brunton has launched a pocket-sized Hydrogen Reactor to power up your mobile phone when you're away from it all.

The Hydrogen Reactor comes with two Hydrogen cores, each of which has the equivalent power of more than 30 AA batteries.

Pop one of the cores in the reactor and you can connect a phone through a standard USB cable.
The device produces 8500 mAh of power at an output of 2.1mA, which means that each hydrogen cell will charge an iPhone 5 for about five times.

The hydrogen cells can also be refilled. Brunton says outdoor retailers stocking the Hydrogen Reactor will also have recharging stations.

The Swedish-designed Hydrogen Reactor was unveiled in the past week at outdoor trade shows in the US and in Europe, where it picked up the Outdoor Industry Award gold medal.

As the 216g reactor charges a phone, it produces a faint hiss and a small water vapour cloud when the hydrogen reacts with oxygen in the ambient air.

No Australian pricing has been announced but the device is expected to go on sale in the US for about $200 and refilling the cartridges will cost about $8.
